Unemployment hits 13 percent in the Peoria area

PEORIA - The unemployment rate in Peoria reached 13 percent in January, the highest it's been for that month since 1984, according to figures released by the Illinois Department of Employment Securit.
Unemployment climbed across the state - rising in all 12 metro areas of Illinois. Springfield (10 percent), Champaign-Urbana (11 percent) and Bloomington-Normal (9.5 percent) all established January records for joblessness, said state jobs analyst Norman Kelewitz.

The unemployment rate in the Chicago metropolitan area jumped to 11.6 percent in January from 10.6 percent a month earlier and 8.4 percent in January 2009, the Illinois Department of Employment Security reported today.

Gaming machines have been legal here for years. What has been illegal are machines that pay out. The Video Gaming Act serves to turn these machines that are currently operating illegally all over the state into a source of revenue. The act also prescribes a stringent background check for people who maintain the machines and those who host them in their establishments.
